Stanley No 1 Type 12 Sweetheart B Casting NiceHere is a beautiful example fo a stanley no. 1. I believe this si a type 12 made only in 1921 & 1922. I came up with type 12 mostly due to the stamping on the iron (y trademark), the lcak of the kk tm. On the elver cap and it's shape and the knob and tote shape. Comparing what i have to the type studies shown in ptampia vol. I, by roegr k. Smith and various online sources, is where the info came from. If i'm wrong, please correct me. Moving right along. This plane is in excellent shape with at least a good 95% of the japanning still there. The body measures 5 3/4 inches from tip to the end of the overhang and is 1 33/64th's wide. The mouth has not been tampered with and measures 5/32 of an inch in width. The sole is smooth with no dings or scratches that can be felt and only a scuff on the left upper cheek that can be seen in the pictures, which you can polish out. There are no cracks, chips or repairs to any part of hte plane and probably needs a little cleaning to be in top shape. The tote has a several dings and a little loss of finish from being used and a few tiny chips at the top edge of the horn but fits nice and tight on the plane. The front knob has a hairline crack about a 1/4 inch long from the bottom up thta is almost unnoticeable with the finish mostly intact and a small ding that doesn't really show. Otherwsie solid. The blade is 4 3/4 inches long with no nicks in the cutting edge and the sweetheart marking is a good clean strike. The frog has no chips in it and the solid brass, left hand threaded adjusting wheel, works smoothly with no buggered up threads or dings in the knurling. The leevrcap is great with only some staining.
